Only 2% of school websites are 'good'

      | More

A recent study of school websites, across England, showed just 2% of the secondary schools examined passed the speed test.

Primary school websites faired slightly better at 9% but the research by Cogent demonstrates that schools can do a lot more to improve their websites for both prospective parents and current parents.

We are offering a FREE review of your website to help you get the most from it. Contact Richard on 01295 278216 or email contact@samui.co.uk and let us put you in the top 2%.

Website speed is a key factor in today's world of instant access but it's not the only consideration. Having a responsive website that allows visitors to view the website on any device is a major consideration in this digital age. With 62% of adults now possessing a smartphone it's fair to conclude that the majority of parents will try accessing your website via a mobile or tablet. Being able to find the information they need, on smaller screens, is therefore imperative. The Cogent study found that nearly two thirds of its sample did not have a responsive website, from both the Primary and Secondary school sector.

Being mobile-friendly does not require costly development of an app or necessarily a redesign. Ask about our mobile friendly conversion to get your current site up to date.

2 click rule

This research has presented many striking statistics, some that could be predicted, but the content review shows the most immediate action requirements for many. The DfE have published guidance on what must be present on school websites but over half of websites reviewed failed to comply with providing a named contact, accessible within 2 clicks. A school website offers parents a means of engagement but knowing who to contact, when and how, not only assists parents but also school administration staff. No contact details or having the information deep inside the website forms a barrier of frustration to your user as well as failing to comply with DfE guidance.

Having developed several school websites we are in a position to advise on such necessities. Bringing your website inline with national standards should be a Summer priority, so start with a FREE assessment of your current website. Call Richard on 01295 278216 or email contact@samui.co.uk.

The Need for Speed!

      | More

Even if you've read past the title of this email you won't be reading much further unless I get to the point quickly....

...so allow me to. Your website has an estimated 4 seconds to load before you start to see a significant drop-off in your visitor rates. Any longer than 4 seconds and you've already lost an estimated 25% of potential customers!

Was that quick enough for you?

OK, I appreciate your time is still very precious so let's make this simple. Click the button below, send me your website address and I'll send you a FREE speed test report to make sure your website is maximising its potential.

Test My Website

Still have time?

If you have time for a more detailed explanation, that's good to hear. In such a fast paced world it's nice to know not everyone is dropping off within the first few seconds! So, why the rush? Competition on the internet has grown enormously over the years and users know that they have a choice. If a website is taking too long to load they can simply move on to the next one - your competitor's! Having a website that loads quickly, gets your visitors past step one and into your virtual world where you will no doubt have plenty of useful information, offers, products and services on show, all within easy reach, so don't get lost behind the 4-second drop-off.

What affects page load speed?

There are a number of factors that can affect the time it takes to load your website, not all are under your control, such as the user's internet speed, however, acceptable loading speed is relative for each user. They will be aware they have a slower connection but will be comparing your website's load time against others' on the same connection, so it's even more important under these circumstances to be the quickest, to ensure repeat visits.

So what is under your control?

  • Website's coding standard
  • Website's Hosting capabilities
  • Website's configuration settings

You may not realise that these are under your control or that of your webmaster. Ensuring that your website has been written to the latest coding standards, is hosted on a server capable of managing your website's traffic, design & features and ensuring your website is using the full capabilities the hosting server has to offer are all simple steps that can be taken to drastically improve your website's performance.

Email me your website's URL and let me test your website's performance with a FREE report on how it could be improved. Send me a competitor's website URL as well, and I can compare the performance of both sites so you can see which of you is losing the 25% of visitors! Cooking up an Internet Storm!

      | More

Jamie Oliver is well known for his cooking skills in the kitchen but today he's cooking up a storm on the internet.

His website attracts 10 million hits a month but it was compromised causing visitors to download dangerous malware to their computers. The 10 million visitors gave his hackers the motive but it was the second, unknown site that had the major vulnerability, delivering the malware content. Is your site secure from being this gateway?

Samui can provide you with a security and recovery audit of your website and then implement the actions to ensure your website works for you, rather than you having to work on the website! Contact us today at contact@samui.co.uk or call Richard on 01295 278216 to secure your websites future.

You may be thinking your site doesn't have 10 million hits a month and therefore won't be an attractive target, but any website that's compromised offers hackers a way to host their content, as their head quarters, if you like, for the bigger slice of cake! Wordpress sites are common targets as their vulnerabilities are largely publicised, however, any website that runs any form of plugins or content management system is open to attack. What's secure today may be vulnerable tomorrow, if you don't keep your website and hosting solutions up to date and secure.

At Samui we can audit your website and hosting arrangements to advise you on how you can make your website secure now and in to the future. Having a security and recovery plan in place can save you and your business time and money by avoiding the down time, disruption and negative publicity an attack can cost you. Having your google entry listed as 'This site may be hacked' is not attractive to potential customers and can take some time to be removed. Likewise an IP blacklisting, due to email spamming, can also have a long term effect on your ability to send legitimate business emails.

If you would like to discuss how or if this may be important for you please contact us today at contact@samui.co.uk or call Richard on 01295 278216 and be confident you won't be on Jamie's chopping board!
